Philadelphia's Snow Fairies offer up six indie pop gems on their debut. The playful intro "Hi" appropriately introduces the band to new listeners. "Stormy Weather" follows, with light instrumentation highlighting Rose Bochansky's angelic vocals. "The New Spelling of My Name" includes multiple vocals and a rollercoaster of ups and downs, while "We Were Framed" is an infectious, frolicsome pop song. "Sentimental Heart" rounds out the disc in disarming pop-ballad form. Rounded out by guitarist Jayme Guokas, keyboardist Melissa Kramer, guitarist Neal Ramirez, and drummer Joel Tannenbaum, the band formerly known as the Skywriters set out to make a new name for themselves with this EP on California's Blackbean & Placenta Records. Released in August 2001, this self-titled EP hinted at brighter things to come.
