Details
[Edit]Considering the success of their second album, released less than a year before this EP, you'd expect Summer to be designed to appease fans eager for a third full-length. Instead, it was a swan song; the day after releasing this, Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside announced they were breaking up. It was fun while it lasted, and they go out as they came in. Summer is a blast of rockabilly, surf, garage rock, and attitude. A brash and provocative singer, Ford abandons all lyrical subtlety as she thrashes out "Lips and Hips," "F--- That," and "Bumpin'" in her distinct hiccupy delivery while her propulsive band pushes all the way. From the hot-rod instrumental opener, "Eagle Has Landed," to the anthemic closer, "(I'd Go The) Whole Wide World," it's a rollicking set that ends, like the band itself, much too soon.
