Sweden is a garage rock hotbed, but that's not all they do with guitars. Eschewing the solo-acoustic template of 2003's debut Mutiny on Mercury, TSOS's Samuel Petersson tries on full band arrangements and improves five-fold. This is one of those sugary jangle-pop affairs one dug from Brit combos such as the Loft, June Brides, and Jasmine Minks. Only the basis is older: Listening to Floods, dim memories of Terry Jacks (of fleeting "Seasons in the Sun" and Poppy Family fame) are what "flood" your brain. And the guitars and vocals, well — have you heard the Cyrkle ("Red Rubber Ball," Turn Down Day") lately? Petersson may kiss the ring of jangle godfathers the Byrds with light Rickenbacker leads like "The Birds and Bats," but this is sunny-clean guitar pop, with cupid vocals that turn him on — it's good, too. Great Smiths-ian lyric: "But get inside her clothes?/Heaven knows."
