As the title suggests, One Enchanted Evening is mood music for quiet evenings, with the blend of accordion and organ resembling Dot-era Lawrence Welk at times. Like Welk, the Three Suns don't shy away from modern and surprising (for mood music) material, and One Enchanted Evening includes instrumental renderings of Don Gibson's "I Can't Stop Loving You" and the Five Satins' "In the Still of the Night." Peppy tempos and a wide range of instrumental textures prevent One Enchanted Evening from seeming like yet another somnolent, string-heavy easy listening album. "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" rolls with a heavy beat, and the aforementioned "In the Still of the Night" makes use of a bizarre treated guitar sound that would jolt most listeners out of their reverie. Although these flourishes may compromise the album's utility as a relaxation disc, they show that the Three Suns are among mood music's most imaginative practitioners.
