Details
[Edit]The accidental formation of this superstar line-up in the late ‘80s made things casual enough that no one jockeyed for better position and a sense of fun prevailed throughout. George Harrison had been looking to record a B-side when his famous friends Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty showed up and ended up recording an entire debut album. That first album, Volume One, contains an infectious energy of solid camaraderie as the band performs folk-rock, Beatlesque pop and rockabilly with easy authority (“Handle With Care,” “End of the Line”) and a tad too much late ‘80s production (courtesy of Lynne). Dylan’s “Tweeter and the Monkey Man” and Orbison’s “Not Alone Any More” remain the riveting standouts. Orbison sadly passed before the follow-up Volume Three was recorded and the album suffered some in his absence. The Traveling Wilburys Collection includes the original and bonus tracks from both albums, plus a Traveling Wilburys documentary and five additional videos.
