This is country music done right: rich in harmonies, with acoustic instruments, the occasional fired-up electric guitar, and songwriting that points up the quartet's strengths. The Trishas hadn't even meant to become an ongoing concern; they chose their name because they were covering a Trisha Yearwood tune in tribute to Savannah Welch's dad, singer/songwriter Kevin Welch. However, the group's collective talent demanded that they work full-time. An EP led to this debut full-length, which recalls the strengths of The Dixie Chicks, Suzy Bogguss, and the alt-country groups who've returned country to its roots. "Mother of Invention" adds a twangy lead guitar to this celebration of resourcefulness. "Strangers" captures a sense of loss and alienation with its sorrowful gait. Kenny Vaughan kicks "Cheater's Game" into swampy terrain with bluesy, electric guitar that threatens to take a few heads off. "Cold Blooded Love" stalks the night with a nocturnal groove, haunted backing vocals, and creaky fiddle. "Rainin' Inside" works sultry Shelby Lynne territory.
