Killed My Parents was originally a limited vinyl run that made 1000 Twilight Sad fans very happy. A compilation of live recordings and unreleased material, the collection was created to help fund a 2008 tour with Mogwai. The album artwork and title are a tip of the hat to the Raymond Pettibon illustration adorning Sonic Youth’s Goo, but don’t expect anything resembling “Dirty Boots” or “Kool Thing” here. We do get the Scottish band’s faithfully somber rendition of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Modern Romance,” an acoustic take on The Smiths’ “Half a Person,” and a caterwauling live version of Joy Division’s “Twenty Four Hours.” Tracks 1, 2, 4, and 5 are live recordings of songs originally released on the band’s debut LP, Fourteen Autumns, Fifteen Winters. "Untitled #27" and "Untitled #28" became "The Room” and "The Neighbours Can't Breathe," respectively, on the band's second studio album, Forget the Night Ahead. “I Was Hoping Winter Was Over” is a lovely, ephemeral instrumental track, and the unsettling “The Weather Is Bad” was recorded for Brilliant Noise, a short film by the artistic duo Semiconductor.
