Details
[Edit]Recorded in May 2011 at New York City’s Webster Hall, Live in New York is The Twilight Singers’ first live album, and it’s as twisted and epic as you might expect. Leader Greg Dulli has always had a flair for the dramatic, and his intensity takes over when faced with an adoring crowd anxious to take the ride with him. At their best, The Twilight Singers create a cinematic sweep that takes their music from desperate whispers to chilling catharsis. The guitars weave while Dulli scales dramatic heights. Yet it’s all kept remarkably accessible. “I’m Ready” punches like a lost pop nugget. “Teenage Wristband” sways with the force of its hook wrapped in a velvet glove. The extended workout of “Bonnie Brae” lets Dulli channel his onstage magic. “Candy Cane Crawl” adds to the nocturnal edge. Playing through the highlights of their steadily growing catalog, The Twilight Singers show just how uniformly excellent they’ve been and how what was once a side project has become a dominating entity.
