While this album is comprised of 20 recordings from 1989-1994, it reintroduces the Ukrainians into the active fold since 1995's Kultura was their erstwhile final recording. The first three tracks were recorded in 1989 as their previous incarnation, the Wedding Present. That came about as a result of joint member Peter Solowka tinkering with traditional Ukrainian songs and Wedding Present being intrigued enough to perform them for the John Peel sessions, thus creating an instant buzz and ensuing tour. Other interesting inclusions are their rendering of two Smiths songs (sung in Ukrainian) previously released on their Smiths tribute EP Pisni and a collaborative effort with the Oysterband and Rev Hammer on "Those Were the Days."
