Coming out of Brooklyn, The Underachievers (Issa Gold and AK) hit the scene in 2011, collaborating with their homies in Flatbush Zombies. In the summer of 2012 they dropped a pair of joints online—"Gold Soul Theory" and "So Devilish"—which led to a meeting with L.A. producer Flying Lotus, who quickly signed them to his label Brainfeeder. The Underachievers received more props and acclaim for their debut mixtape, Indigoism, and they return here with Lords of Flatbush: a nine-track effort featuring their signature psychedelia–meets–true-school vibe and production from Lex Lugar, EFF.DOPE, and Erik Arc Elliot. With tag-team verses that fuse mystic spirituality, hardcore New York street smarts, and self-medicating mind expansion, they've got a highly original style that's clearly resonating with hip-hop heads and critics alike. Highlights include the spacy yet rugged "N.A.S.A." and "Melody of the Free."
