Details
[Edit]What began as a side-project in 1997 for the Mekons’ Jon Langford became over the next decade a virtual institution. Prodded on by the “insurgent country” Chicago-based Bloodshot Records label, Waco Brothers recorded seven studio albums before finally unleashing the live album that has been in the asking since their inception. Live, they never slow down or worry about a bum note, taking great pride in their massive attack. The magic is in the pushing, and this snapshot of the band on their adopted home turf of Chicago (this is a group comprised of former members of British groups such as Jesus Jones, Gang of Four and the Mekons) rallies through their entire catalog with Neil Young’s “Revolution Blues” being the lone cover. “Too Sweet to Die,” “Cowboy in Flames” and “Death of Country Music” represent everything this band stands for — throwbacks to a time when country music belonged in the barroom with a sense of danger lurking in the aisles.
