Hailing from San Francisco, Thee Oh Sees are the brainchild of local rock visionary John Dwyer, and they're well known for their over-the-top live shows and dizzyingly extensive discography. Over the past decade, they've changed their name, sound, and lineup several times, and they're currently settled into a somewhat spastic hybrid of old-school psychedelia, '60s garage pop, and noisy but relentlessly catchy experimentation. Between late 2011 and late 2013, Thee Oh Sees dropped three high-quality albums (Floating Coffin, Putrifiers II, and Carrion Crawler/The Dream), while this one collects assorted singles and rare cuts from the same period. Though it's not as explosive as seeing them do their thing in the flesh, there's a lot of great material here, most notably "Block of Ice," "Crushed Grass (Demo)," the radio-ready ditty "Wait Let's Go," and a cover of an early Sonic Youth track, "Burning Spear."
