Details
[Edit]Pieces of a Paradox is the fourth release on renowned Detroit producer/DJ Theo Parrish's Sound Signature label. The EP follows the Parrish blueprint with dark and moody grooves. The A-side features "Ebonics," a dancefloor-friendly track that works in a sample from an old educational record explaining black dialect, along with a translated passage of ebonics. While the samples seem humorous at first, they add to the tracks deeper meaning later on, asking, "How little have we gained, and how much have we lost?" "Dusty Cabinets" graces the record's B-side. A meandering pattern of off drum beats and a low synth held together nicely by a single clap pattern. Parrish seems to work a chaotic pattern of broken notes into a dark melody that forces your attention. Not as socially insightful as the A-side, this track appeals more to the senses than the intellect.
