[Edit]Legendary Stones producer Glyn Johns came out of retirement to mix this 2009 release. This amazing live album was recorded in 1977 at Philly’s Tower Theatre and it truly captures the Irish quartet in their heyday. Scott Gorham’s leads are as flawless as his flowing mane of hair, especially when locked in perfect guitarmony with Brian Robertson. But it’s the late frontman Phil Lynott who drives the show with impassioned vocals and gripping charisma. A captivating version of “Soldier of Fortune” primes the crowd, but it’s the following pumped-up take on “Jailbreak” that sends fans into an audible frenzy. Lynott’s banter throughout is cool and engaging, and his performance on “Cowboy Song” is simply stellar. “Don’t Believe a Word” could have invoked riots with its raw rock power. Bonus tracks include an extra-heavy rendition of “Bad Reputation” and the galloping “Emerald.”
