[Edit]Three miles out is the international border at sea, but Three Miles Out is a landlocked rock band from Cleveland, which may be why they express such frustration in the lyrics of their debut album, TMO. Sometimes, the anxiety is generalized, but in other songs, it's specific: "Tuesday Morning" finds the singer reflecting on the death of a loved one, while "Serious" recounts several attempted suicides. Three Miles Out sets these stories to melodic hard rock. The standard two guitars/bass/drums lineup plays in a style familiar from a thousand garages, with the rhythm section pounding along and the guitars playing big riffs as they chime and twang together in support of the catchy hooks in the lyrics. It's easy to imagine this music filling clubs with raving fans, even if the downcast lyrics don't jibe with the good times promised by the stirring arrangements and driving performances. The CD-ROM content includes a video of "Something in the Water," lyrics, personal comments from each of the bandmembers, and photos.
