Dream Letter - Live In London 1968

Dream Letter is one of the finest live albums released by anyone. Recorded in London, 1968, and released posthumously in 1990, it is one of the crown jewels of the Tim Buckley catalog. The performances and sound are first-rate. His backing group of guitarist Lee Underwood, bassist Danny Thompson and vibraphonist David Friedman are beyond compare. Buckley, himself, is in sterling form as he takes the group through the material from his landmark Happy/Sad album with definite performances of “Love from Room 109 / Strange Feelin’” and “Buzzin’ Fly,” and a slew of tunes from Goodbye and Hello. The extended improvisations make every song an intense workout that show off Buckley’s brilliant range and his single-minded determination to find and break new musical ground. There are six previously unreleased tunes captured here as well as songs from albums still not released. The medley of songs make for a spellbinding wizardry and whether he’s rocking out with “Who Do You Love” or finding a mystical world during “Hallucinations,” it all comes out as the vision of a man who remains one of the all-time greats.
