Details
[Edit]Recorded live in the studio, Tim Lee's No Discretion has a tenacity that was missing from his other post-hiatus effort, Under the House. Just check the blistering opener, "I Wanna Believe," which merges the spirit of vintage R.E.M. with the guitar roar of classic Smithereens, or the title cut's bleary-eyed, Crazy Horse-styled stomp and grind. Lee's stylistic diversity is what impresses most as he masters the percolating harmony-coated pop of "Sure Bet," the sad, Son Volt-like winner "New Hope," brawny bar rockers like "Speak Up Girl" and "Things Get Broken" as well as the acoustic, apocalyptic love song "The End of Time." Lee may never crawl out from under the shadow of his much-cherished former band, the Windbreakers, but he's made his best effort yet with No Discretion by serving a baker's dozen that never disappoints. ~ John D.
