Resist Education

Timonium is one of those rare bands liberated, not confined, by the breadth of its influences. Even a cursory listen to Resist Education immediately evokes everyone from My Bloody Valentine to Galaxie 500 to Mogwai to Flying Saucer Attack, but never does the band merely plagiarize its forebears — instead, their time-lapse drone epics fuse together the strongest elements of dream pop and slowcore classics past to revive and expand the approach. Resist Education suggests an emotional center colder and far more isolated than the bliss-out aesthetic largely favored by its antecedents — whatever the literal meanings behind songs like "Inflatable Sculptures" and "Continental Drift," the dark, haunted soundscapes speak far louder than words.
