[Edit]If you'd have to pick a single metallic style that was ruling the charts and airwaves in 1997, it would have to be the dastardly rap-metal. And compared to the then-current metal climate, the third release by Today Is the Day, Temple of the Morning Star, was an anomaly. Long considered one of Today Is the Day's strongest releases, the album managed to incorporate elements of goth and noise metal ("High as the Sky") as well as some more tranquil, acoustic-based moments (the album-opening "Temple of the Morning Star"). The fine folks at Relapse opted to re-release the album in 2006 with an extra track — a cover of the Black Sabbath classic "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath." Although it stuck out like a sore thumb when it originally appeared, nearly ten years after its release Temple of the Morning Star has proved to be an album far ahead of its time — especially when compared to the metal music coming out during the early 21st century.
