Details
[Edit]Singer/songwriter Todd Deatherage must have broken some hearts while mending a few of his own. This Texas country boy tells tales of forlorn love on his debut album, Dream Upon a Fallen Star, and provides a charming disposition throughout. From the honky tonk good times of "Desperate" and "She's Leaving Me" to the lovesick woes of "Walking in the Rain" and "Say the Things You Should," Deatherage is unafraid to tell it like it is. He's not overly sappy, and vocally he matches Rufus Wainright and female artist Sam Phillips. A country-rock background allows Deatherage to play around musically in order for each individual song to take shape. "Over You" shimmies with samba-like appeal, while "Lose Myself" sways with hushed horn arrangements, easy-pop style. Dream Upon a Fallen Star is conscious of love's brighter sides, and Deatherage shows a bit of confidence that love is not lost. He's a musician in the making, and this album highlights his motivation.
