Recorded on the supporting tour for 1989's Nearly Human, the concert Todd Rundgren gave at the Warfield in San Francisco in 1990 finds Todd fronting one of his slickest and tightest supporting bands — a de facto blue-eyed soul revue that wound up energizing Todd. Naturally, the set list relies heavily on his (excellent) new album but there's also a heavy dose of Rundgren classics, most dating from the late '70s ("Real Man," "Love of the Common Man," "Cliché," "Can We Still Be Friends," "Mated," "Love in Action"); a few deep tracks ("Tiny Demons," "Lost Horizon"); and surprises like a Marvin Gaye medley. Rundgren is in fine form, singing with passion and clearly energized by his new band, and it's hard not to get swept up in his enthusiasm, as this is Todd pleasing the audience and himself in equal measure.
