This is one of the best big-band Christmas jazz albums. Arranger Tom Kubis has creatively reworked 16 seasonal songs (a few of which are newer), featuring such fine soloists as trombonist Andy Martin, trumpeters George Graham and Wayne Bergeron, and himself on tenor (successfully battling fellow tenor Pete Christlieb to a draw on "We Three Kings"), soprano and piano. Kubis's wife does an effective job singing three songs, trumpeter/vocalist Jack Sheldon is memorable on the humorous yet truthful "Jazz Musician's Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" is turned into a comedy routine by Sheldon, Pat McCormick and Jack Riley. A memorable set of swinging music, highly recommended.
