Tommy Edwards' second MGM album features a dozen songs of romance performed by the silver-toned singer, whose sensitivity and light touch with a ballad resemble Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis (although Edwards preceded Mathis by several years). For Young Lovers lacks a major hit like its predecessor's "It's All in the Game," but contains three charting singles, the biggest of which is a remake of the pop standard "My Melancholy Baby." Edwards' music has subtle R&B flourishes, like the piano triplets that adorn several songs, while the crisp electric bass and soft country swing of "A Teardrop on a Rose" is a sound that became associated with Brook Benton. Sophisticated and tender music for the fireside.
