Having secured a reputation as a haunt for the more beguiling producers of the world, with their back catalog stacked to the gills with audio curiosities, Berlin's Crippled Dick label climbed a few rungs down the left-field ladder with the deep house musings from siblings Beni and Christoph Reimann. This climb-down is thankfully not echoed by any letup in quality, with the ebullient electrickery of the latter loaded with the organic contributions of his brother, a combination that placed the release of their eponymous debut in 1999 in among noted heavyweights of jazz and electronic fusion such as Matthew Herbert. And so it is that their accomplished vibraphonics and the tinkling key work of this long-overdue follow-up, further embellished by Burkhard Finckh's rich trumpet, the guitar of Nikolas Tillmann, and the contributions of vocalists Selda Kaya and Nadja Dehn, added further esteem to an already enviable reputation. "Emmentaler Swing," a well-paced ode to the contents of the Reimanns' refrigerator, takes its place as a highlight.
