Details
[Edit]Neither brothers nor named Tren, the Tren Brothers are guitarist Mick Turner and drummer Jim White (better known as two-thirds of the Dirty Three) playing a particularly amorphous and languid version of post-rock instrumental atmospherics. The four instrumentals are partnered with four Quicktime films on this enhanced CD, with each video using the song as the soundtrack of short films of Turner painting the four panels that comprise the CDs artwork. It's all quite insular, really, the combination of improvisational music creation and Turner's casual painting style, but just as the paintings have their naïve charms, the melodica-powered buzz at the climax of "Seagull" and the sudden dynamic shifts of "Out of Town" are undeniably pretty cool, even if they do occasionally sound like neat effects in search of actual songs.
