Croatian-born DJ/Producer/electronic musician Dean Bagar was active for decades in the electronic music scene before the release of Equanimity, his 2014 debut as Tricky D. A long-term interest in drum-n-bass and 2-step forms led naturally to the dubstep bass, ambient patches, and downtempo beats that make up this incredibly laid-back set, all coated in thick influences from reggae, dub, and ragga. Deep bass and swaggering female vocals swim through nods to tropical funk, jungle rhythms, and an eclectic variety of sounds lifted from the history of house, garage, and reggae-derived club music. Highlights include the dancehall bark of "Who's Gonna Be Responsible?" and soulful synth workout "So Many Tears."
