[Edit]Northern New Jersey's Trixter was a poppy hair metal band and yet another casualty of the grunge revolution. Its self-titled 1990 debut album spun off three hits—"Give It to Me Good," "One in a Million," and "Surrender"—before the music world changed overnight. Now, Trixter has recorded its first new album of original material in 20 years. The production has been refined to reflect the drier, tougher textures of modern hard rock, but the songs and performances balance the group's old mix of pop hooks and quick, grinding guitar riffs. The original lineup is back, hooking up with producer Chuck Alkazian (Elton John, Tesla). Some old Jersey mates—Glen Burtnik and Skid Row's Dave "Snake" Sabo and Rachel Bolan—help out with some tunes. Elements of the blues can be heard in the boogie-based numbers "Drag Me Down" and "Dirty Love," while the power ballad "Live for the Day" could've been released in 1990 and been a heavy-rotation MTV staple. Singer Pete Loren is in fine voice and arguably an even better singer now, adding a gritty charm to "Tattoos & Misery" and "Save Your Soul."
