Vensaire are a band that define the word "eclectic." Most groups find a style and stick with it, but the members of Vensaire all bring different influences and interests to the sessions. And with Scott Colburn (who’s worked with Animal Collective and Arcade Fire) producing the sessions, the emphasis is clearly on working within the band’s quirks and turning them into a strength. “Porteno” is a Spanish-styled tune that works off a Spanish guitar until the arrangement explodes into a festive street celebration with a choir of voices guiding the song to a finale of found sounds and odd noises. “Finding It Found” and “Wanderer Christened” fall in the freak-folk category, right down to the Devendra Banhart–styled vocals. “Tel Aviv” takes a modern rock flourish that’s part Foster the People and part Arcade Fire. “Song 6” is a standout, with the vocal finding its way into an angelic zone while the musical arrangement keeps everybody busy, even stumbling into a mutation of a waltz.
