Details
[Edit]Trombonist Vic Dickenson, a sideman during most of his career, had several long overdue opportunities to record as a leader during 1974-76 when he was finally being recognized as a major mainstream stylist. Dickenson, tenor saxophonist Buddy Tate, pianist Red Richards, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Oliver Jackson perform seven standards (including such off-the-wall vehicles as "Isle of Golden Dreams," "Black Bottom" and "Five O'Clock Whistle") plus the trombonist's "Ding Dong." The trombonist's sly wit is very much in evidence on this strong set, he blends in well with Tate, and Dickenson plays throughout in prime form. Easily recommended to small group swing collectors.
