[Edit]Brazilians Vinicius Cantauria and Ricardo Silveira are highly respected individually and function as a well-matched duo. Silveira is an exceptional guitarist capable of tasteful leads on both acoustic and electric, while Cantuaria manages all the percussion as well as singing and playing rhythm guitar. Silveira’s “A La Dori” sounds positively epic, with subtle rhythms in the background and several guitar overdubs filling out the gentle melody, while “Dia de Sol (Sunny Day)” adds in some crunchy electric guitar. Known for his work with Bill Frisell and Arto Lindsay, Cantauria is a focused composer who has reimagined bossa nova with tasteful modern touches without losing the romance. Highlights from him include the upbeat bossa nova “Wanderley (Sessao Das Onze)” and the darkly textured “E o Fim (It’s the End).” The set is rounded out by what seems like a Brazilian cowboy love song, “Mais Nada (Nothing More),” which is one of two songs cowritten by the two. Highly recommended for those who like the soft, moody side of Brazilian music.
