[Edit]Vittor Santos has a warm sound on his trombone and a restrained style that occasionally cuts loose to reveal that he is a great virtuoso. Performing in a quintet/sextet with one of three pianists, guitarist Fernando Clark, bassist Rodrigo Villa, one of two drummers, and (on two numbers) Hamilton de Holanda on ten-string mandolin, Santos plays with the warmth and fluidity of a Bill Watrous. The material, all of which is obscure and much of which is new, is full of rich Brazilian melodies that inspire Santos and guitarist Clark to be at their most expressive. A delightful set that makes one realize that Vittor Santos should be much better known in the United States.
