In 1997, Wency Cornejo released a four-song set entitled Wency Cornejo. The Philippine male singer is the former lead singer/primary songwriter of now defunct AfterImage, a popular band in the early to mid-1990s. He cultivated a reputation for writing tender love songs, and he could rock at times, too. The four songs on Wency Cornejo are all tender love songs, accompanied by tender acoustic guitar. One song is a remake of Cat Stevens' pretty "How Can I Tell You." "Here and Now" is a nice enough love song, though not particularly outstanding. The quality of Wency Cornejo's singing voice varies. At times he sounds strong and confident, as heard in "Here and Now," while at other times his voice wavers, as heard in parts of "How Can I Tell" and "I'll Always Dream." Yet, his singing comes across as charming, and it's always listenable. "I'll Always Dream" is a competent love song, though plodding in spots. He sings the start of "Laging Nandito" in a low voice, which is almost a whisper before he builds to a strong tenor. The acoustic guitar plays a large role in all four songs. This album doesn't break boundaries, but it's listenable.
