Despite having a sizable following, a ton of positive press, and an impressive catalog, Wilco have primarily survived on noncommercial radio. This collection does an impressive job at condensing Wilco’s career into a generous 38-track summary that follows the band from their alt.country, post–Uncle Tupelo beginnings to the increasingly personal and experimental tone of their later albums, even finding a place for songs from their Mermaid Avenue collaborations with Billy Bragg. This is as concise as its sister release, Alpha Mike Foxtrot: Rare Tracks 1994-2014, is expansive.
