Details
[Edit]A rousing set of solo bagpipe marches, reels, airs, strathspeys, and jigs. On the opening track, a medley of two marches composed for competitions, McCallum moves fluidly up and down the scale to create a stately, regal feel. On the reels (or dance songs), the piper takes it up a notch, with blistering arpeggio runs delivered at astounding speed to make for a most exhilarating sound. Perhaps most powerful is "Rory MacLoude's Lament," a mournful tune lamenting the death of a clan chieftan with an achingly beautiful melody. A great introduction to the various styles of traditional Scottish music, Hailey's Song is one of the best bagpipe albums in a long time.
