The debut album from this tight-knit core of Toronto-area musicians showcases the voice of Kathryn Rose over some extremely relaxed backgrounds. Although the first couple of songs, particularly the opening, "Cold Shoulder," seem to stagnate in overtly safe territories, it's the blues acoustic "Don't Want to Know" which brings Rose to the forefront without overdoing it to the point of annoyance or embarrassment. The slower, soulful offerings tend to show a polished, professional air, with additions of either accordion or sax. The longest number also happens to the best of the lot, a trip back in time in "Family Car." There are some elements of up-tempo funk in some songs, which really doesn't suit either the music or her voice well, becoming too wordy at times. Instantly forgettable is the quirky spoken word of "Gwendolyn." But such miscues can be forgiven when "Meeting Place" steers the album back to above-average respectability.
