Details
[Edit]Though the album was released under ROIR's imprint, the usual home of Wordsound I Powa is Wordsound Records, where you'll also find such American reggae/hip-hop/illbient luminaries as Scarab, Spectre and the Crooklyn Dub Consortium. This collection of mostly dub-inflected reggae and illbient tracks features a number of Wordsound regulars, including Likkle Jer and the Rankin' Boopsman (who together deliver a nice Spanglish deejay performance on "Puro Malo") and Dr. Israel (who checks in with a restrained but impressive jungle remix of the boroughcentric "Saidisyabruklinmon Nobwoycyantess"). There's also a tedious and overlong piece of dub poetry and a number of thoroughly wicked bass-heavy instrumentals-"Bass Flight" is especially impressive with its creative sampling and cavernous headspace. Nothing on this album will change the way you listen to reggae, but it's definitely a wise investment overall.
