Details
[Edit]Columbus, Ohio’s WV White are a Midwestern quartet that reveal a mix of ’90s alt-rock influences. “Multiple Bathroom,” “Mastercraft,” and “The Mess” sound as if they’d been found at the end of the studio reel of Dinosaur Jr’s Bug sessions, with “Alison Lapper, Pregnant” churning at a lower frequency, closer to Dylan Carlson’s Earth. Singer/guitarist Tyler Travis clearly has the slacker-prince vocal technique down pat (though it's more J Mascis than Stephen Malkmus), as he makes his way through “Ford Mustang,” a tune further helped by the Stranglers-like organ of singer/keyboardist Caeleigh Featherstone. Bassist John C. Fisher comes through with “JC’s Song,” which starts and ends with the click of a cassette recorder for a lo-fi interlude. Drummer Tayler*** Beck’s rumbling drums guide “The Mess” and bring “Tricycle Stura II (Nutra)” through the free-jazz chaos.
