[Edit]Unfairly criticized for having one sound, Motown actually released records of many genres and styles. As is evident on Plight Of The Redman by Xit, a band of Native Americans from Albuquerque, NM. Originally released on the Rare Earth label in 1972, the title explains the consciousness and relevancy of the music. Apocalyptic tom tom beats and eerie chants introduce "Beginning," more of the same with "Nihaa Shil Hozho" a seven minute odyssey that was the only single released from this album in the 70's. It's odd that "I Was Raised" never was a single, it's commercial with a heavybottom Motown beat, a strong lead, and infectious lyrics. "The Coming Of The Whiteman" and "War Cry" employ similar jingle-jangle rock beats, only the lyrics differentiate the two. Femme Native American backing vocals highlight "Someday," and "End" which employs Phil Spector's wall-of-sound technique.
