Details
[Edit]Though their sounds were worlds apart, there are a lot of similarities between Tupac and Dilla. They both died too soon, they were both workaholics who cranked out new music nonstop, and they were both famous in life but ascended to iconic-deity status after they passed. Dilla left us in 2006, but his already gigantic discography has continued to grow, with posthumous projects like Jay Stay Paid, Rebirth of Detroit, and Jay Love Japan to name just a few. Sunset Blvd is the latest release, with 14 Dilla-produced tracks topped with rhymes from his brother Illa J and coconspirators like Guilty Simpson ("Go and Ask the DJ"), Talib Kweli ("Flowers"), and Common ("Quicksand"). The previously unreleased beats come from a private Delicious Vinyl stash, recorded between 1995 and 1998. They sound like classic Jay Dee: dusty drums, big bass bumps, and obscure samples galore. Whether you're a hardcore Dilla devotee or just a fan of high-quality hip-hop, this album doesn't disappoint.
