[Edit]The music of J.J. Hairston and Youthful Praise is incredibly popular, and it’s easy to see why; the 20-year-old choir has tapped into a bold, brassy take on urban gospel with After This. Youthful Praise has previously worked with SWV, Destiny’s Child, and Shirley Caesar. Its worship-style jams give praise with steamrolling energy and knowledge of grace. Here, the group is joined by John P. Kee, Hezekiah Walker, Bishop Eric McDaliets, LaShun Pace, Lisa Knowles, and Minon Bolton. There are a few more old-school-sounding numbers that are successful: notably “The Blood,” “I Am,” and “Grateful.” But it’s the jumped-up, propulsive songs like “After This,” “Lord of All,” and “My King” that really move the soul and may give your feet the urge to get up and move around as well.
