Nada Es Color de Rosa

Despite working with a different team of songwriters, Yuridia sounds much the same on her fourth full-length effort, Nada Es Color de Rosa, an album with several standout power ballads that showcase her strong voice and embattled persona. After rising to fame on the reality television show La Academia with a compelling backstory and "the voice of an angel," Yuridia released a trio of albums that made her the best-selling new artist in Mexico: La Voz de un Ángel (2005), Habla el Corazón (2006), and Entre Mariposas (2007). The latter two albums were produced by Javier Calderón, and Entre Mariposas in particular is notable for including a few songs co-written by the singer herself for the first time in her recording career. Yuridia took a two-year break prior to releasing Nada Es Color de Rosa, a gap that was filled by the compilation album Remixes (2008). Rather than work again with Calderón, who had co-written much of Entre Mariposas, Yuridia teamed up with producer Ettore Grenci, who co-wrote the bulk of Nada Es Color de Rosa along with Mónica Vélez, Cecy Leos, and Fernando Pantini. Yuridia is credited with co-writing a couple of the songs ("Un Paso Más," "Todas las Noches"), but in general, Grenci and his team of songwriters came up with the material. One exception is the album-opening power ballad "Irremediable," a great song contributed by Julio Ramírez of the band Reik. "Irremediable" showcases Yuridia at her best, singing with both passion and pain while a massive string arrangement soars behind her and a piano keeps rhythm. There are some uptempo pop/rock songs on Nada Es Color de Rosa but not many, just enough to space out the ballads. One of the best pop/rock songs is "Contigo." Other highlights include "Me Olvidarás" and "Todas las Noches," the latter of which is a duet with Sonohra.
