Biography
[Edit]Singer/songwriter Angie Heimann first attempted to write a song when she was 12 years old, and at 13 she was strumming her guitar to the strains of "Puff the Magic Dragon," which she learned from her dad in their Kent, OH, home. She proceeded to work in bands during her teen years, including a folk group called Aylas Sling. While lots of kids start out in similar ways, few grow up to establish a label of their own or to produce their own albums, as Heimann did. She founded Cinnamon Bones Music in 2000. That same year, the label released her first album, Cinnamon Bones. Substantial Snacks followed almost a year later. Her second release features guitar work by her spouse, Brek Jacobson, whom she met when she was 18. Also featured are De De Vogt on percussion and bass.
Heimann's interest in keeping a journal led her to attempt songwriting. When she was 12, her parents' marriage fell apart, and Heimann turned to her writing for solace. Between the ages of 15 and 22, she frequently performed on local stages with an aunt. At 18, Heimann played out in Ohio coffeehouses and similar venues with her future husband. She graduated from Miami University of Ohio when she was 22. Her degree focused on literature, women's studies, and creative writing. Following graduation, Heimann and Jacobson relocated to Atlanta, where she performed while also holding down a job as a nanny. The couple married that same year.
