Anjelah Johnson

Actress, comedian, and former NFL cheerleader Anjelah Johnson created two popular characters on the MADtv television series, the rude and ghetto fabulous Bon Qui Qui plus a shifty nail salon employee named Tammy. Born and raised in San Jose, CA, of Mexican and Native American descent, Johnson was attending college when a chance to join the Oakland Raiders’ cheerleading squad, the Raiderettes, pulled her away to Los Angeles. Touring the L.A. standup circuit and uploading a video of her Tammy character to YouTube brought her to the attention of MADtv. She joined the sketch show’s cast in 2007 for a total of only four episodes, but her Bon Qui Qui and Tammy characters were a hit and in 2008 she earned an ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) award nomination for her work. A year later she would appear on the television series Ugly Betty while lending her voice to the animated film Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Her standup special That’s How We Do It! premiered on the Comedy Central cable network in 2010 and was released by the Warner Bros. record label that same year.
