Biography
[Edit]Ar Log formed in 1976, more or less at the drop of a hat, to represent Wales at a Celtic Music festival after the original Welsh entry withdrew at the eleventh hour. Less a band than an accident, they referred to themselves as the band-for-hire, and so came by their Welsh name Ar Log (literally, on hire). The band caught the wave of celtic revivalism, while adding their own distinctively Welsh sound to the scene, most notably through their adoption of the Welsh triple harp. The band has been through innumerable membership changes since Dvid Burns (mandolin, guitar, bodhran, vocals), Iolo Jones (fiddle, recorder), Dafydd Roberts (triple harp, flute), and Gwyndaf Roberts (knee harp, Clarsach) came together. Since the 1980s, the band (greatly expanded) has gone into semi-retirement, preferring to confine its touring activities to Wales, but continues to record albums.
