Biography
[Edit]Intricate Brooklyn-based indie trio Celestial Shore began as a recording project of singer/guitarist Sam Owens. After relocating to California to work an internship with Blue Microphones, Owens began recording the material that would eventually comprise the 2012 EP California Eden. Blending off-kilter jazz improvisations and math-y time signatures with classic '60s pop influences like the Zombies and Beach Boys, Owens turned to former Berklee School of Music pals bassist Greg Albert and drummer Max Almario to complete the band. Back in Brooklyn and now working as a unit with Albert co-writing much of the material, the group followed up with a 7" and a split EP before completing their debut album, 2013's 10x. Mixed by Deerhoof's Greg Saunier and released in conjunction with Brad Oberhofer's Local Singles label and Portland experimental indie Hometapes, 10x shared a progressive style similar to fellow Brooklynites Dirty Projectors. Their second LP, the more pop-oriented Enter Ghost, arrived in November 2014.
