Biography

[Edit]

A co-founder of Sleater-Kinney, one of the most important feminist punk rock bands of the '90s, Corin Tucker also played in Heavens to Betsy early in that decade before joining forces with Carrie Brownstein in 1994. Sleater-Kinney's music earned near-universal acclaim from the release of the band's 1995's self-titled debut album to 2005's The Woods. After touring in support of that album, the group took an indefinite hiatus. During that time, Tucker focused on motherhood and other concerns until a 2009 Portland, Oregon benefit show spurred her to perform some of the songs she had written while she was away from the spotlight; soon after, she recruited Hungry Ghost's Sara Lund and Golden Bears members Seth Lorinczi and Julianna Bright to help her record the the Corin Tucker Band's 1,000 Years, which was released in October 2010. Two years later, the band, now featuring Mike Clark (of Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks), returned with the impassioned Kill My Blues.
