Biography
[Edit]The acoustic guitar is a tool for experimentation and contemplation for Scotland-born guitarist David Allison. Although his compositions are rooted in the Celtic tradition, Allison combines strong melodies with computer sampling and tape looping to weave a texturally-rich tapestry. "The Scotsman" explained that Allison is "at his best in the contemplative, exploratory, vein", while, "The List" pointed out that "using a looping technique, (Allison) constructs rooms of sound that are nearer New Age than Scots traditional, more ambient than jazz". Allison's debut album, "Reporting", was produced by Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean and released in 1994 on MacLean's label, Dunkeld. His second album, "Guitar Gi-tar", featuring accompaniment by drummer Chris Smith and tabla player Vijay Kangutkar, followed two years later. Allison's third album, "Acoustic Memories", released in 1998, included fourteen tracks and a CD ROM supplement. Allison's composition, "Communique", is used as the title music for the Scottish television series, "Arts And Parts". In addition to working as a session musician in Lon Angeles, Allison produced a live album, "Flamenco Live", by Seville-based flamenco band, Jaleo.
