Biography

[Edit]

Longtime musician David "Solid" Gould first began to make a name for himself in the music world as part of John Brown's Body, a popular reggae band based in New York. For the new millennium Gould went solo, recording a debut album under the I-Town Records label. Gould's music is a mixture of roots reggae and traditional Hebrew prayers. Some of the tunes he has recorded include "Adon Olam Dub," "L'Dor Vador Dub," "Etz Chayim Hee Deb," and "Sim Shalom Dub." Bassist David "Solid" Gould was raised in Merrick, NY. He showed an early love for music, and an impressive natural talent. When he was only seven years old he began learning to play the trumpet. After a while his interests moved on to the bass, where he seemed to find his musical niche. After college, Gould moved to Boston. He formed a funk group there called the Board of Education, and spent time as part of another one, Crown Electric Company. In 1997, he found his way to John Brown's Body, also known as JBB. A few of the artists he performed with in the latter are saxophonist Lee Hamilton, drummer Tommy Benedetti, trumpeter Chris Welter, and guitarist Kevin Kinsella. Three years after stepping into the JBB lineup, Gould finished recording his debut solo album, Adonai & I. It was followed a year later by the sophomore release, Adonai in Dub. In both cases, he brought along some of the artists he had worked with in other bands to lend their talents on the recordings.
