Biography
[Edit]Known for her quirky, goofy, humorous songs, Deirdre Flint is an entertaining singer/songwriter who became active on the Philadelphia music scene in the 1990s. Flint, who blends folk, rock and pop, has been compared to the equally humorous Christine Lavin, although she insists that she was writing funny songs before she ever heard of Lavin. Born in Philly in 1967, Flint grew up in suburban Valley Forge, PA. After graduating from high school in the mid-1980s, she moved to Washington, DC to attend college—and after earning a BA in English, she lived in San Francisco for a year before moving back to the Philadelphia Area and earning a masters in elementary education from the University of Pennsylvania. In the late 1990s, Flint earned a living as a substitute teacher in the Philly public schools but devoted much of her time outside of the classroom to songwriting and live gigs. The Philadelphian released her excellent debut CD, The Shuffleboard Queens, on her own Fadia label in 1999.
