Fátima Guedes has had her compositions sung by Elis Regina (who presented her for the major audiences in 1978), Maria Bethânia, Nana Caymmi, Simone, Ney Matogrosso, Elba Ramalho, Alcione, Wanderléa, Zizi Possi, Joanna, Simone, and Beth Carvalho, among others. Some of her hits are "Cheiro de Mato," "Condenados," "Onze Fitas," "Absinto," "Lápis de Cor," "Arco-Íris," "Faca," and "Flor-de-ir-embora,"

Fatima Guedes began to write poems at nine, and at 15, she taught herself the violão (acoustic guitar). At 18, she participated in a festival at Colégio Helio Alonso. The jury, formed by Maria Bethânia, Paulo César Pinheiro, Hermínio Bello de Carvalho, and Roberto Moura granted her the Passional awards for best lyrics, music, and interpretation. Her first album was released in 1979, Fátima Guedes. With "Mais Uma Boca," she disputed the festival MPB/Shell Em l980 and recorded the second Fátima Guedes in the same year. Her Lápis de Cor album (1981) was praised by critics. In 1983, she released Muito Prazer, which had "Absinto," followed by Sétima Arte (1985). Pra Bom Entendedor had compositions by Guinga/Aldir Blanc. Three of her songs were nominated for the 1996 Sharp prize, two from Grande Tempo: "Minha Nossa Senhora" and "Sem Saída."
